Hello!
I am looking for housemates to join me in a beautiful and unique home in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Woodside.
The situation: in November 2022, two housemates and I moved into a house at 101 Laughing Cow, located on near the intersection of Kings Mountain Road and Skyline Boulevard. In March 2023, a large douglas fir fell on the back of the house, destroying one person’s bedroom and another attached room. Everyone (including the cat, Bodhi) was ok, but we had to move out immediately. The repair is scheduled to finish at the end of December 2023, but due to life/financial constraints neither of the original housemates will be able to move back in. So, I am looking for 2-3 easy going, creative, community-oriented individuals who would like to share the most beautiful place I have ever called home.
The details:
• $1800 - $2200 per month with split depending on room choice. $5900 total per month for the house. Both original housemates have car projects in the garage and would be willing to pay to retain the space, so the total rent could potentially be lower. Open to couples splitting rooms.
• We have first right of refusal on the new lease. I would require full arborist inspection paid for by landlord of the trees surrounding the house before signing new lease. 1 year lease.
• 2030 square feet, 3 beds, 2 full bath. Huge (like weirdly huge) shower on the 2nd floor.
• 20-30 minutes driving to Stanford/Palo Alto, 40-50 minutes driving to downtown SF.
• 15 minutes driving to Woodside or Sky Londa, which both have grocery stores and restaurants.
• Lots of deck space, attached room that can be used as a study/writing/work/fun space.
• Fenced in garden.
• Wood burning stove that we used to heat the house the entire 2022-2023 winter (one of the coldest on record).
• Zillow link with some pics: . Also attached a few pics.
About me: I am 25 years old and work at SLAC National Laboratory. In my free time I like to trail run, climb, quit my job to hike long distances (not in the next year don’t worry), play drums in a psych rock band and read. While I am generally somewhat introverted, I enjoy living in community with others, working on house projects together and would be quite pleased if the house was a space for community, creativity, and fun.
The (copious, undeniable) pros:
• Location. Backyard access to 100’s of miles of trails through Huddart Park, Purisima Preserve, Wunderlich Park, and Corte Madera Preserve. If you like to trail run, hike, mountain bike, road bike or just be outside this house is as good as it gets in the Bay.
• 10 miles on beautiful Tunitas Creek Road to the ocean, surfing, and beaches.
• QUIET and peaceful as you can imagine – on a clear night you can see the stars.
• Lots of deck space, lots of natural light, very cool house if you like architecture.
• Open, two level living/dining area that is great for hosting parties and even shows if you are musically inclined.
• Friendly neighbors that frequently lend tools/assistance.
• Fun housemates ??
Some (potential) cons for your consideration:
• Slow internet, mediocre cell service. Fine for browsing, reading, sending emails, etc but if you are full time work from home on Zoom all day or like to stream 8k movies this may not work. It may be possible to upgrade but might cost extra to lay new cables.
• Remote. Possible to get by sharing a car, but no car would require extreme motivation and fitness (it’s 2k downhill to the nearest real grocery store).
• Cold, foggy and rainy through the winter. I love the fog, and it is hard to tell what this winter will bring but if you need lots of sunshine the winter will be tough. Spring, Summer, and Fall are all sublime.
• There was a treehouse but it fell over and rolled off a hill! Quite spectacular, but now no treehouse.
About you: ???
Ok, that was long. If you made it this far and are interested in living here, send me an email with some basic details about yourself, how you like to spend your time and ways you think you could make the house awesome!
Best,
James
