Our intentional community in Hillsborough (near San Mateo) is looking for a new housemate or two. Do more than just share a roof with those you live with! Live in a big beautiful house near the Crystal Springs Reservoir with trails, on a peaceful street with an expansive and private yard, two living rooms, nice kitchen, sauna, jacuzzi, swimming pool, garage workshop. We have a beautiful view of the bay, SF, Oakland, and SFO. We’re halfway between San Francisco and Palo Alto for an easy commute and access to the city. We share our yard with abundant rabbits, lizards, bats, and beautiful trees. We’re looking for long-term residents who are excited to invest in our community and grow with us. We will probably not be able to accept new furry pets in the house.

About the Community
Athenaeum is an intellectually curious, friendly, caring, and consensus-driven community, founded in 2015. As individuals, our values vary, but we all have a desire for community - to do more than just share a roof with those we live with. We take active, intentional steps to bring people together and foster connections.
We enjoy sharing dinner most nights at the Ath. We have a bi-weekly house meeting where we discuss announcements, improvements on the house/community, and general check-ins. Costs, utilities, and groceries are shared. We buy lots of bulk foods and keep the kitchen well stocked. We host Friday night dinners for friends twice a month, occasional lectures, birthday cookouts, holiday dinners, and hikes in the redwoods. We’re all fully vaccinated now. This is a somewhat risk-tolerant house, COVID-wise. Most of us don’t mask up outside of the home all the time. This is an ongoing discussion as the pandemic situation continues to evolve long-term.
The Roommates
We are a group of seven adults (including our next housemate), in our late 20s - early 40s who come from a variety of backgrounds and love sharing, talking, and eating food together. We are open-minded and welcoming of varying identities. There’s usually something fresh-baked in the kitchen, a hike happening on the weekends, books on the bookshelves, and dancing just because.
S: she/her, queer/trans white scientist & artist. Excited about conversation, helping, jokes, workshop organization, art installations, exploring new things, plant keeping, & leftist rambling.
P: she/her, loves learning new things, meeting different people, traveling and bonding over food. Likely to say yes to trying new restaurants and game nights.
C: she/her, queer, white, writer & arts program manager, excited about post-capitalist visioning and meditation practice, but not very into talking about either.
M: loves math, science, religion and philosophy, reading, and always learning. Likes baking, tending to the bread, cooking, and asking big questions in the kitchen over tea. You could often find him biking or hiking on the weekends and generally getting up to shenanigans with the community.
K: A space nerd and a global citizen devoted to nurturing planetary stewardship. Her moments of meditation are found in the art of cooking and the thrill of running. Loves to unite people through shared meals and board games. As the sun sets, her mind wanders to the profound mysteries of the universe, and on weekends, she delights in wandering through the woods, embracing the beauty of nature.
A: Non-binary white anarchist into buddhism, vulnerability practices, cooperative games, and self-directed education.
