My room in our 2-bedroom shared apartment becomes available on April 1. I’ve lived here for almost three years and am leaving because I’m going back to Europe. Our place is located in the quiet, safe and beautiful neighborhood College Terrace in Palo Alto. It is 5 min away by foot from Escondido Village/the Stanford border, where you can hop onto a free Stanford bus that will take you to the center of campus in ten minutes. Also Cal Ave with many shops, restaurants, grocery stores and the farmers market is only 5 min away by foot. In short, the location is perfect for anyone working at Stanford, but it is also a great place if you want to live in the heart of Silicon Valley and commute by car to your workplace. We do have a parking spot in a carport, which you can use in case you have a car.
My roommate, who you would be living with, is male, a non-smoker and works as a postdoc scientist at Stanford. He occasionally plays some music in his room, but this was always quiet.
Our place has two bedrooms, each with a sliding closet and each fits a queen-size bed and some furniture (nightstand, dresser, bookshelf). Apart from that, our place has a very large living room. We have a dinner table, a couch, an armchair and a coffee table in the living room. We have one shared bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen with stove, oven and dishwasher.
The bedroom will be available for lease from April 1. The monthly rent for half the apartment is $1500. Utilities (electricity, gas, sewer, refuse) plus internet are usually between $70 per month per person in summer and up to $120 per month per person in winter if the heating is running more. Cold water usage is included in the rent.
We value a quiet atmosphere at home, so if you like to throw parties at home or have friends over a lot (in normal times outside of a Covid pandemic) we are probably not a good fit. If you are a quiet person and prefer to either work or relax at home we might have very similar personalities. You should also be a non-smoker and have no pets.
A few more infos about our place:
- A coin-operated washing machine and dryer are in the building.
- Our place also has a porch with some armchairs.
- The security deposit was $1550 per person, so you would have to pay this much for the deposit.
- My roommate and I bought some furniture for the living room (couch, coffee table, armchair, dinner table, chairs) and electronic equipment (WiFi router, cable modem, vacuum cleaner) together, which was around $1500 in total. I’m asking for $400 from the new tenant for taking over half of this shared stuff, so you should expect to pay me this amount when moving in.
- Optional: The queen-size bed (comes with two large storage boxes underneath) in my bedroom and the mattress are three years old and in great shape ($400 and $900 original prices), they can be taken over by the new tenant for $500 if interested.
- Optional: I also have a desk, a cabinet with 9 drawers and an office chair in the living room, with a 32-inch monitor and an ink printer/scanner on the desk (also 3 years old and all in perfect shape), which can also be taken over by the new tenant if interested: original prices were $160, $130, $70, $300, $180, these items can be taken over for $130, $100, $40, $150, $100.
